Sterile Saline Solution Buyer’s Guide

Sterile Saline Solution is a sterilized sodium chloride solution used to clean debris from a piercing without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. It comes with a fine mist spray actuator to gently cleanse piercings. Wound irrigation is imperative to wound care, because it creates an environment optimal for healing. Using pressurized and sterile saline wound wash is one of the most common cleansing methods used by hospitals, because it’s a non-toxic, isotonic solution. It’s gentle enough to not damage healing tissue, and neither adds nor takes fluid from the wound bed. Furthermore, there are no possible allergies and it does not alter the bacterial flora.

What to look for when buying Sterile Saline Solution:

  • Non-refillable: Not able to be opened/ refilled
  • Pressurized: Solution comes out with enough force to irrigate but not enough to damage
  • Sterile: Free from bacteria or other living micro-organisms
  • Isotonic: 0.9% salt to water ratio, aka “normal saline,” because it’s concentration mimics blood, tears, and other bodily fluids
  • Ingredients: purified water, sterile 0.9% USP NaCl (sodium chloride)
